MY STORY,

Welcome, I’m Dhama. With over 20 years of guiding others through yoga, I’ve come to trust that within each of us lies the wisdom to heal. Sometimes, all we need is a gentle space to remember. My deepest calling is to hold that space—for stillness, for rest, and for the quiet return to who we truly are.

Read more about my journey below or let’s connect.

the beginning…

I was born on Ireland’s beautiful east coast and moved to Australia at ten years old, carrying my roots with me. From 2001, I performed traditional Irish dancing with the Riverdance company and studied acting, but something deeper called—a longing to be of service to others, for something meaningful in this life. That’s when yoga first found me.

discovering the power of yoga…

A woman lying on her back on a grassy area near the beach, with her eyes closed and arms stretched out, facing the sky, with the ocean and sand in the background.

I first approached yoga as a physical exercise— a way to achieve balance and good health. But the practice quietly revealed an anxiety, a striving for perfection, that had been driving my life. It wasn’t until a low point in my late twenties that I discovered yoga’s true depth. Meeting myself on the mat, allowing all that stirred within to rise, yoga became my lifeline.

a deeper calling emerged…

Yoga became an introspective search for depth and truth, to answer the question of “who am I really?”. I rigorously trained with some of the best teachers in Australia, as well as studying movement with internationally acclaimed Gavin Robins and receiving my Nature Care Accreditation. I went on to teach for over a decade at the Living Room in Sydney, as well as working with a number of Corporate clients (i.e. Ladbible, Mindshare) and running retreats around the world.

coming home…

Over time, my practice has evolved, weaving in tools like sound healing, breathwork, and the devotional path of Bhakti—yoga through seva or loving service. Rooted in ancient Vedic wisdom, this philosophical path has taught me to meet myself and others with greater compassion, to see that even in so-called ‘imperfection’, there is wholeness. Now based on a farm in the Northern Rivers with my husband, I’m serving a heart-led community both locally and across Australia. And as I continue to venture inward, I look forward to connecting with you and going deeper together.

“I have been a long term yoga student of Dara’s. I love her classes, they are fun and varied and reflect her deep knowledge and passion for yoga and meditation. She has amazing body awareness and guides students through poses effortlessly and safely in and out of poses. I can recommend her classes highly!”

  • GARY

“Dara’s teaching is sublime. Her expertise and knowledge is exceptional and she holds space with grace and elegance and teaches with compassion. Every class is different. When I was a beginner she taught me to stand and to breathe. 10 years later she still teaches me. Don't hold back, join her class at the first opportunity.”

  • KYLIE

“For over ten years, I knew all I had to do was simply turn up to the mat for Dhama’s class, and that my psychological, spiritual, and physical self would be held with exceptional care, profound skill, and more grace than I felt I deserved at the time. On that mat, I grew, I learned, and I was challenged with true intention. I was also transformed in mysterious and powerful ways, directly as a result of the love, skill, and dedication that Dhama brings to her practice.”

  • BARB

“Dara is a kind, warm and caring woman who served as our yoga teacher for several years. She conducted a weekly class at our home, attended by my husband, two friends, and me, all of us medical doctors. Dara’s sessions became an essential part of our week, helping us to de-stress and recharge while providing vital physical benefits in a friendly, familiar and convenient location.

Dara made a concerted effort to ensure that each participant could practise yoga according to their individual abilities. She offered gentle guidance and set achievable challenges, making the class accessible and beneficial for everyone involved.

As the classes were held in our home, we often shared the space with our three dogs. Dara’s calm demeanour had a noticeable effect on them too; after greeting her enthusiastically, the dogs would quickly settle down, with one sometimes lying on her back and  joining in the practice.

We all greatly enjoyed our small, private class and were very sad when Dara had to move away from Sydney.”

  • ROBERT

“Dara was great to have as a yoga teacher. She came to my home and from the moment we met her, there was an instant connection. She is warm, knowledgeable and was a real pleasure to have as an instructor. With Covid we did video sessions which continued our Yoga journey.

As an older male, needing to improve my flexibility and strength, she was able to intuitively know what I could do and not do and made each session a great pleasure. I still miss our sessions and only wish that she had stayed in Sydney so we could have continued. I wish her all the very best.”
